What is traditional Thai massage?

Thai massage, known as Nuad Bo-Rarn in its country of origin, is a thousand-year-old discipline recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2019. It combines finger pressure along the energy lines (the Sen), gentle joint mobilisation and assisted stretching inspired by yoga. Unlike a Swedish or Californian massage, it is performed without oil, on a floor futon, in loose clothing we provide.

The goal is not only relaxation: a true Thai massage restores joint mobility, releases muscle chains shortened by sitting, improves circulation and deepens breathing. A complete session ideally runs 90 or 120 minutes — the shorter 60-minute format is still very effective for focused work on the back, shoulders and hips.

How a session unfolds

You arrive ten minutes before your appointment, fill in a short health questionnaire (sensitive areas, recent surgery, contra-indications) and change into the loose outfit we provide. You are then led to a cabin set up for floor work, where your therapist welcomes you. The session begins lying on your back, moves through legs, abdomen, chest, arms, then you turn over for the back, shoulders and neck; it ends seated for spinal stretches and neck work.

Mild soreness within 24 to 48 hours is normal, much like after an intense yoga session. Drink plenty of water in the hours that follow, avoid heavy alcohol that evening and stick to a light meal.
