When to choose deep tissue over a relaxing massage
Deep tissue isn't a « firmer » version of a relaxing massage — it's a completely different therapeutic approach. Where a relaxing massage works superficially to soothe the nervous system, deep tissue aims to reach the deep muscle layers, the fasciae and the chronic knots (trigger points) that maintain pain and stiffness.
It's particularly indicated in several situations: neck and trapezius tension caused by long hours on a screen; lower back pain caused by a sedentary lifestyle or sport; post-effort stiffness in golfers, padel players, runners and cyclists; recovery from muscular injury (with clearance from your physio or doctor); chronic stress somatised in the shoulders or jaw.
Techniques used by our therapists
Our deep tissue specialists combine several recognised approaches: deep forearm effleurage to prepare the tissues, glides along muscle fibres, specific trigger-point work (sustained pressure on a knot until release), myofascial release on muscle chains, passive stretching at the end of the session.
The work is progressive. The first ten minutes warm up the body with moderate pressure; intensity then increases as the tissues release. It is essential to communicate freely with your therapist: a good deep tissue sits right at the edge of comfortable, never in sharp pain.
Who it's for: athletes, desk workers, travelling executives
In Marbella our deep tissue clientele falls into three main profiles. Amateur and professional athletes — golfers from the Nueva Andalucía courses, padel players from the many coastal clubs, sailors and yacht crew, cyclists from the Sierra roads — who use massage as a regular recovery tool. Executives and entrepreneurs on the move, whose routine (long flights, screen-heavy days, decision stress) builds chronic tension in shoulders, back and jaw. Permanent residents who fold deep tissue into a fortnightly wellness routine to maintain their body and prevent pain from settling in.
After the session: soreness, hydration, follow-up
Mild soreness within 24 to 48 hours after an intense session is normal — exactly like after an unusual workout. Hydrate generously (two to three litres of water within 24 hours), avoid intense effort that day and favour a hot bath or sauna to extend muscle release.
For chronic conditions, we recommend a plan of three to five sessions spaced seven to fifteen days apart, then monthly maintenance. This progressive approach gives much better results than a one-off session.

« I was looking for real deep tissue in Marbella, not a soft massage marketed as deep tissue. Nicole is exactly what I needed. I'll be back. »
