Golf recovery in Marbella: why a massage changes everything
Aloha, Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, La Quinta… The density of courses around Nueva Andalucía makes Marbella the European capital of golf. Here are the protocols our therapists use to erase the fatigue of an 18-hole round.

What 18 holes really do to your body
A day of golf in Marbella is rarely « 4 hours of walking ». Between Aloha's slopes, the technical terrain at Los Naranjos and the heat from June to September, your body absorbs repeated effort on very specific muscle chains: external shoulder rotators, lumbar spine erectors, glutes, hamstrings and tibialis posterior.
The swing is an asymmetric movement. Repeated 80 to 120 times in competition plus chips and putts, it generates micro-contractures in the obliques, the latissimus dorsi on the dominant side and the rotator cuff. That is the main reason why regular Costa del Sol golfers seek treatment at the end of a season.
The « post-round » protocol used at Nikky's Mass.
Our therapists, especially Nicole and Lina, have developed a 60-to-90-minute protocol specifically built for resident golfers in Nueva Andalucía and visitors staying at Puente Romano or Marbella Club.
- Gentle manual warm-up across the whole back to soothe the nervous system after effort
- Targeted deep work: latissimus dorsi on the dominant side, rhomboids, lower trapezius
- Rib cage mobilisation to restore the rotation lost in the swing
- Leg drainage (calves, hamstrings) to flush out lactic acid
- Passive Thai stretches of the hips and posterior chain
Before or after the round?
Both windows work, but with different objectives. A massage the day before a competition focuses on mobility and circulation, without searching for trigger points. The goal is to reach the first tee with maximum shoulder amplitude and a supple back.
Post-round massage can be deeper. That's when we work on painful areas, treat adhesions and accelerate recovery so you can play again the next day without stiffness. Most golfers spending a week in Marbella book a massage every two days during their stay.
Salon or in-room massage?
If you stay in a Sierra Blanca or La Zagaleta villa or an apartment in Puerto Banús, outcall is often the most convenient choice. Our team travels with a professional table, oils and towels. You can move straight on to your shower, dinner and night without having to drive again.
The Nueva Andalucía salon, 5 minutes from Aloha and Las Brisas, remains the ideal option if you want to enjoy the full atmosphere, the tea and the rest area before heading back.
